Self care is not selfish!
As women we give and give and give to everybody, then feel guilty when we take time or do something for ourselves. It’s been hard wired through generations that the woman is the caregiver, and being such, self care and self value gets put on the back burner.
You are a human, just like everyone you take care of.
Your family, friends, and co-workers, all need care, love, kindness and support, JUST LIKE YOU DO. We all do! So give yourself permission to take care of you too.
Yes, it may mean someone else doesn’t get your attention for 15 minutes, an hour, a weekend. But you need to put your own mask on before helping others (the airlines got that right!)
You need to decide that it’s ok, that you need this and that everyone else will be better off if you take care of you.
Here are 5 things you can do now to start taking care of you!
1. Carve out 15 minutes a day that are just for you.
Doing this simple step will actually HELP your productivity, not diminish it. Spend this 15 minutes however you want but it HAS TO SPENT ON YOU. Walk, journal, meditate, soak in a hot tub but do it for you!
2. Create a do-able to do list
Before bed write down 3 achievable things you need to get done tomorrow, and plan on when they will get done. Yes, I know your to-do list is waaaayyy bigger but don’t stress yourself out by trying to do it all.
3. Create a mantra
Remind yourself that you are a human being, not a super hero. “I am doing my best” helps me when I get overwhelmed.
Try to focus on one thing at time. Multi-tasking stresses us out. And when we multi-task, none of the tasks get done at 100%
5. Get your sleep!
Sleep heals your body and your mind, not getting enough of it severely impacts your energy, focus, and health.
I had a great discussion with my friend Dena about self value on my facebook page. Take a listen here. (don’t mind my darth vader voice!)
